
The Gay Centre. A safe place to come along and
meet new people and make new friends...

We provide a number of services based on our
communities needs. (This is around 450 people accessing our services each week,
of which 5 - 15 are new service users)
- The Gay Centre in Darlington, which is the 1st Gay Centre
in the North East with 2 weekly drop-ins on Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Sexual Health Outreach Work Monday nights at 10 venues in
Darlington twice a month
- Weekly Men’s Group
- Fortnightly Club T/Women's Group– A group for Transgender
people and gay & bisexual women. We are looking into a launching a separate
women's group in the new year.
- Weekly LGBT Youth Group (for 16 – 25 year olds)
- One to One sessions, Befriending clients, Advocacy &
Referrals (main issues: Hate Crime; Accommodation; Sexual Health;
Relationships; Coming Out; Homophobia; Domestic Violence; Alcohol & Drug
Abuse)
- LGBT Help-line. The Help-line is answered in office hours
10am – 5pm during the week and 7-9:30pm on Fridays.
- Home Visits
- Positive Living Services for those living with or
affected by HIV/AIDS (This service, due to lobbying by HIV+ people, has
developed a once a month self-help support group that will also be a closed
group for HIV+ people only).
- LGBT Book & Video Library
- HIV/AIDS Reference Library
- Booklets, Flyers & Leaflets on Sexual Health, LGBT,
Cancer, Drugs & Alcohol, etc.
- Free Condoms, Lubricants & Oral Shields
- LGBT Community Internet Café in our
Gay Centre
- Distribution of LGBT magazines such as; Out North East,
FS, GT,+VE, Repartee & G3
- Information on local gay scenes and safe venues
